Your Adventure begins.
Leave the details to The Trekking Yeti while you soak up the ancient
and
colourful culture of the Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal.
With years of experience in Nepali tourism Yam Gurung will lead you
through the fascinating world of Nepalese culture, language and traditions
of the
local people.
Group size is limited to no more than 12 trekkers as well as guides
and
porters. This will allow you have have ample opportunity to absorb the
beauty
and spirit of life in this amazing country. Small group trekking also
allows
us to leave the smallest footprint possible with respect to the environment,
people's daily lives and the culture.
In addition to urban life you will see typical rural lifestyles as
we trek
through Nepali villages. Trekking is simply walking along established
paths,
many used by local people today and centuries ago. Your group ascends
slowly
into the mountains in order for you to acclimatize gradually to the
higher
altitudes reached each day.
This 20-day journey with The Trekking Yeti will include all local
and
national transportation, all accommodations and group meal costs in
Kathmandu and Pokhara. Accommodations are arranged for the entire group
of
twelve trekkers and your leader Yam Gurung. Group meals are noted in
the
itinerary with time left for individuals to wander and seek meals on
their
own. Advice and suggestions from Yam and his team are always available.
Our twelve day, eleven night trek will follow the route to the Annapurna
Base
Camp (ABC). While trekking your transportation, accommodations, conservation
fees and all meals will be provided. Accommodations are usually double
occupancy in a village guest house with comfortable yet minimal amenities.
Meals at the village tea houses are also substantial and nutritious
yet basic
fare. Traditional Nepalese food, Dal Bhat (lentils & rice) which
provides
the appropriate nutrients for the rigours of higher altitude trekking
is
offered instead of western foods as we near the Annapurna base camp.
There will be 3 guides for the group of twelve as well as one porter
for
every two trekkers. Porters will carry 15 kg (33 lbs) per person while
trekkers need to carry items needed during the day such as water bottles,
cameras, sunscreen, small snacks and a map if you are interested in
following
along. Larger packs with extra items can be securely stored in Pokhara.
See The Trekking Yeti's recommended list of What to Bring.
To balance the rigours of Himalayan trekking your group will spend
3
days and 2 nights at the Chitwan National Park. Guest house accommodations
within the park limits, jungle walks, elephants bathing, all meals and
transportation (by bus & air) are included.
Costs not covered by The Trekking Yeti include: International Flight,
Nepalese VISA (which is easily available on arrival at the airport in
Kathmandu), airport tax on departure from Kathmandu, Mandatory Travel/Health
Insurance, souvenirs, personal effects, any alcoholic beverages and
soft drinks.
Annapurna Base Camp
The Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) trek starts off at ~1000 m/ 3500ft in
a village
just off the main highway. With steady progress we quickly leave any
sign of
a busy modern day life style behind as we ascend into the foothills
of some
of the world's highest mountain ranges.
Along the way we will see incrediblemountain views, crops ready for
harvest, ancient waterfalls and a wide variety of natural plant life.
The Guest or Tea Houses at the beginning of the trek are located in
actual Nepali villages complete with schools, families, animals and
day to day village life. Once we reach higher elevations there are Guest
Houses built specificly for adventuresome trekkers.
On
the morning of our 7th day of trekking we will walk away from the base
of the sacred Nepali mountain, Macchapucharae which means fish tail,
and head towards the Annapurna Sanctuary. The day begins early and typically
in the fog. If the mountain spirits allow it the rising sun will burn
off the fog and allow us to walk into the Sanctuary with an incredible
view of the surrounding Annapurna mountains. The day will be spent soaking
up the intense mountain sun at the Annapurna Base camp before we trek
out
to the Guest House at Himalaya four stops below Macchapucharae Base
camp.
The ABC trek is rated as moderate to intense by most adventure travel
guides. We recommend a moderate to high level of fitness with some recent
hiking or extended walking experience. Our itinerary is set to allow
the
group to ascend slowly in order to acclimatize appropriately to the
increasing altitude. After 3000m we will ascend no more than 300m per
day in
order to avoid the serious effects of altitutude sickness.
If at any time a trekker needs to descend because of concerns around
altitude sickness they will be accompanied by a Nepali guide.
Chitwan National Park
While the Annapurna Base Camp trek is in the northern section of Nepal,
closer to the Tibetan border, with a large Buddhist population of Mongolian
- like people; Chitwan National Park is along Nepal's southern border
shared
along side India, with traditionally Hindu people of aryan-hindi roots.
The park was established in 1973 by His late Majesty King Mahendra
in attempt to preserve the almost 1000 sq. km of subtropical lowlands.
This area of Nepal, known as the Terai, is home to numerous endangered
mammals, ~450 species of birds, ~60 species of butterflies, over 40
species of reptiles and a wide range of flora and fauna.
In addition to elephants in the breeding station visitors to Chitwan
hope to see the famed one-horned rhinoceros, Bengal tigers, barking
deers, ox like guars and crocodiles. The Royal Chtiwan National park
was made an UNESCO world Heritage site in 1984.
A
visit to Chitwan will not only be incredibly relaxing and filled with
fun adventures such as watching mathmoth yet elegant elephants bath
in the Rapti
river but it will allow guests to feel the contrasting energy that exists
within one small but powerful country. Life on the Terai, the flat yet
subtropical like geographical area is marked differently from that of
Nepal's mountain people.
Following our time relaxing in Chitwan the group will fly back to Kathmandu
on a local flight. This will give us the chance to see the terai, river
valleys, rolling roads and the Kathmandu valley from the air.
Together,Yam and the group will conclude the 20 day journey together
by sharing a traditional Nepalese dinner before everyone departs for
home or other adventures.
